The Global Positioning System consists of a Grid of orbiting satellites, operating at approximately 12,000 Miles above the surface of the Earth. Together with a "Receiver/Transmitter" that is installed in your vehicle, or equipment, pin-points your exact location, in near-real time. This information is then sent to a server and translated into the Web Page for you to see.... all within a matter of seconds!
